KIDSIGHT   DIABETES    GLAUCOMA  RECYCLE  GIFT OF SIGHT

At the1925 international convention at Cedar Point in Ohio, Helen Keller addressed the delegates and charged them with being "Knights of the Blind". Since that time, sight conservation has been the primary mission of the Lions.

We have all heard of or actually witnessed someone doing something,  that really has no reason,( eating worms, pulling a truck with your teeth) when you may say ok you can do it. but why?

When we are asked why we work so hard to help others, with sight conservation as a primary mission.

This is why

Kidsight

The KIDSIGHT outreach program is a screening program for pre-school children ages 18 months to 4 years old. The purpose of the program is to identify, as early as possible, six major pediatric eye problems:

Hyperopia   ( Far Sightedness )

Myopia   (Near Sightedness )

Anisometropia    ( Amblyopia )

Media Opacities   ( Cataracts and other occlusions )

Strabismus   ( Crossed eyes )

Astigmatism  ( Refractive errors )

The screening is done using a special camera. this camera uses Polaroid film, and takes a picture of the child's eye. The photograph is then sent out to be evaluated by a medical professional and a report is sent to the parents.

Approximately 3-5% of children tested are referred for treatment.

How it works is:

The Lions will take a photo using a special camera of the child's eyes and then send the photo to an Eye Doctor for evaluation, after the evaluation you will be contacted by the Doctor as to whether your child needs to be seen by an Optometrist or to say all looks good.

The Dexter Lions working with the cooperation of Dexter Family Eye Center and  Main Street Opticians are helping out individuals in need to be fitted with eye glasses.

The schools seem to be the main source of recognizing  the students in need of assistance.

Eye Glasses that are no longer used or needed are collected and sent to  Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers that are located throughout the world. The used eyeglasses are cleaned, repaired and sorted by prescription. The eyeglasses are then distributed to those in need by Lion volunteers in developing countries.    Visit Eyeglass Recycling to see the journey of a pair of glasses.

Eye Glasses may be dropped off at the following locations.

Give the gift of sight

Organ Donation the Greatest act of kindness

     To Remember Me

Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise,
a baby's face or love in the eyes of a woman.

Give my heart to a person whose own heart
has caused nothing but endless days of pain.

Give my blood to the teenager who was pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play.

Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist from week to week.

Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body
and find a way to make a crippled child walk.

If you must bury something, let it be my faults, my weaknesses
and all prejudice against my fellow man.

Give my sins to the devil. Give my soul to God.

If, by chance, you wish to remember me,
do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you.

If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.

Robert N. Test

Give the gift of sight and you will live forever in someone else's  eyes
